Flamengo's under-16 team meets in Gávea: defeat in the first game made winning the Copa Rio difficult

Flamengo had to make up a 3-1 deficit from the first leg of the Copa Rio Sub-16 final against Vasco, and ended up being defeated again, this time by 2-0, on Sunday morning (29), at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium, in Gávea. The team worked hard on the field, almost managed to open the scoring on two occasions, but ended up conceding two goals in the second half.

As is typical in most title-clinching matches, Flamengo and Vasco played a tight match at the start, largely concentrated in midfield. The exceptions were corner kicks and crosses into the box. The first dangerous shot fell to the opponent in the 18th minute.

The need to win caused anxiety among the Flamengo team, which sometimes rushed into the final stages of plays. Despite having more possession and staying in the attacking half, Flamengo struggled to break through Vasco's defense. Many shots were blocked, and a free kick hit the wall ended up with the goalkeeper saving the rebound in the 39th minute.

Flamengo started the second half well. They had a chance just one minute in, with two attempts by number 1 Guilherme Ivo, but the goalkeeper saved. The best chance came in the second minute, when Pedro Henrique crossed and Guilherme Ivo shot again. This time, the defense cleared it off the line.

Vasco ended up scoring twice better, in the 14th minute, from a free kick, and in the 22nd. The game continued without any major scoring chances. Flamengo fought hard on the field, trying to react, while their opponents tried to kill time and close in on the counterattack. There were no more significant moves until the final whistle.
