With one round remaining in the qualifying phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, Flamengo beat Atlético-MG 4-2 and secured their place in the quarterfinals. The match was played last Monday (14), at the Luso Brasileiro Stadium, on Ilha do Governador. The Rubro-Negro could qualify in this round, depending on the other results.

After falling behind to a Louback goal in the 26th minute, Mengão reacted quickly and scored five minutes later, with Guilherme scoring after a fine move by Lorran and a cross from Daniel Sales. The comeback came in the 40th minute, with a brilliant effort by Matheus Gonçalves., who cleared it to his left and hit a bomb into the goalkeeper's left corner.

Before the end of the first half, another goal. Joshua took a perfect corner from the left, and Iago, from the edge of the six-yard box, headed powerfully into the left corner in the 43rd minute. Early in the second half, the team captain did it again, once again from a set piece. Matheus Gonçalves took a free kick from the left, and Iago scored his second goal with a powerful header, with no chance of a save, in the 2nd minute.

The three-goal deficit forced Atlético-MG to attack, but it was Flamengo who threatened more, particularly through Lorran and Matheus Gonçalves. Flamengo finally managed to pull one back in the 18th minute with a David Kauã free kick. Subsequently, both teams created a few chances, most notably the Minas Gerais goalkeeper, who made a great save after Lorran's chip in the 35th minute. The game ended without any further significant opportunities.

With the result, Flamengo moved up to fifth place with 30 points. If América-MG doesn't beat Fortaleza this Wednesday (16), at 15 pm, at home, Rubro-Negro will already be guaranteed qualification for the quarterfinals. The last game of the first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship will be against Fortaleza, on the 23rd, at 15 pm, at CT Ribamar Bezerra, in Maracanaú, a city close to the capital of Ceará.
