Flamengo ends its participation in the Under-20 Guanabara Cup this Saturday (11), against Volta Redonda, at 15 pm, at José Bastos Padilha Stadium, in Gávea. To be champion, Rubro-Negro, second place with 22 points, in case of victory, needs Vasco, leader with 25 points, to lose to Bangu, at Nivaldo Pereira Stadium, on the same day and time, in addition to making up the difference of three goals in the balance.
Having qualified for the quarterfinals of the Carioca Under-20 Championship, Flamengo secures second place in the event of a draw. Only Botafogo, with 19 points, can catch the red-and-black team, which still has a three-goal advantage. The top eight teams in the GB Cup advance to the next stage of the competition. In the crossover, the first team will face the eighth, the second team will face the seventh, the third team will play the sixth, and so on.
The quarterfinals of the Carioca U-20 Championship will be played in two-legged matches. The top-ranked teams will decide the semifinal spots at home, with the advantage of two equal results. The same criteria applies to the matches that will determine the finalists. In the title match, the top-ranked team will have home advantage in the second leg, but there is no advantage. In the event of a tie, the champion will be decided by penalty kicks.
The training session on Friday morning (10), held at CT George Helal, concluded the preparation for the clash with Volta Redonda, which occupies fifth place in the GB U-20 Cup, with the same 17 points as Fluminense, which is in fourth, both are also already classified. In the activity, coach Bruno Pivetti adjusted the last details of the team.
Flamengo takes to the field to face Botafogo in two categories this Saturday (11) for the Copa Rio, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in Engenho de Dentro. The under-15 team will play first, at 9 am. The under-17 kids will face their rivals next, at 11 am.
