Flamengo took the field this Saturday for the second leg against Maricá in the quarterfinals of the Carioca U-20 Championship with a 3-0 lead—the same score as the first leg. Despite the blazing sun, the "Garotos do Ninho" (The Boys of the Nest) qualified with a 4-0 victory at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium in Gávea. Camargo scored three times and Da Mata completed the scoring.
The red-black delegation leaves for Belo Horizonte, where they will face Atlético-MG in the round of 16 of the U-20 Brazil Cup. The duel is scheduled for next Wednesday (29), at 5:30 pm, at Sesc Venda Nova.
The game
Flamengo opened the scoring in the ninth minute, following a well-rehearsed corner kick from the right. Alan Santos sent the ball short, but Guilherme returned it perfectly, sending a cross to defender Da Mata, who headed it into the net. In the 11th minute, another dangerous move from the right saw Daniel Sales cross, and João Vitor nearly extended the lead with a shot that hit the right post.
Three minutes later, Leo Nannetti showed his alertness and palmed a long-range shot out of bounds. Rubro-Negro continued to control the game, but their attacking moves failed to produce any chances on goal. Maricá, meanwhile, attempted the occasional shot from outside the box.
Even in the intense heat, Flamengo sought to pressure their opponents' play. And that's how the second goal came in the 37th minute. The defender passed the ball back to the goalkeeper, who tried to play it out but was intercepted, and the ball ended up in the back of the net. The goal was a blessing for the striker, who went on to score two more in quick succession, the second of which was a masterpiece.
In the 40th minute, Alan Santos crossed from the left and Camargo got ahead of the defense to score the third goal for the red-and-blacks. Less than three minutes later, the defense stopped an opposing attack and Alan Santos quickly passed the ball to Camargo, who chipped the ball over the Maricá goalkeeper from just outside the halfway line with a fantastic shot.
Flamengo's first chance of the second half came from a free kick by Guilherme, from the left. The number 10 took a direct shot, but the Maricá goalkeeper made the save, palming the ball over the bar. Alan Santos, who had three assists in the match, was looking for his own and nearly got a header in the 17th minute.
In the 34th minute, Alan Santos fired a long-range shot, and the ball flew just wide of the left post. Despite the intense heat, Flamengo continued to maintain a strong pace, with attacking plays and solid defense. And so the game continued until the final whistle.
