Flamengo secured its first victory in the Brazilian Under-17 Championship. And what a victory! Inspired, the "Garotos do Ninho" defeated Athletico-PR 4-1 at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium in Gávea. Ryan Roberto (twice), Jhefinho (one own goal), and Victor Carvalho (one own goal) scored the red-and-black goals in the match, valid for the third round of the competition. Bruninho pulled one back.
Flamengo's first good chance came in the fourth minute, when Ryan Roberto's shot was blocked by the opposing defense. In the 4th minute, João Vitor passed to Dieguinho, who was in good position but couldn't get past the opposing defense's last man. Mengão opened the scoring soon after, in the 16th minute, with Diego's cross from the right that ended in an own goal by number 19 Victor Carvalho.
The lead motivated the Ninho Boys, who managed to extend their lead in the 28th minute, following a João Vitor run down the left, which fell to Ryan Roberto, who slotted it home from the edge of the box. The ball ended up in the goalkeeper's left corner.
Athletico threatened with a free kick in the 34th minute, which Gabriel Werneck palmed out. Flamengo responded immediately with a shot from Luiz Guilherme, which was well saved by the goalkeeper. The team from Paraná reduced the deficit in the 38th minute through number 10 Bruninho and then tried to continue their comeback. The game remained open, but without any changes in the first half.
Flamengo had already arrived well twice at the beginning of the second half, when in the 15th minute, left-back Fabio Henrique stole the ball and passed it to Ryan Roberto, who invaded the area and finished with great skill, scoring his second goal of the match.
Mengão extended their lead in the 22nd minute, with a move down the right that was well-taken advantage of by Jhefinho, who had just come on. Jhefinho also had a good chance to score the fifth goal in the 37th minute, with a shot to the goalkeeper's right. Jhefinho also missed a penalty in the 50th minute, before the referee blew his final whistle.
Flamengo's next opponent in the Brazilian Under-17 Championship will be Botafogo, on Tuesday (3), at 21:30 pm, at the Luso Brasileiro Stadium. Before that, however, the team led by Daniel Franklin will face Bangu, on Saturday (31), at 10 am, in Moça Bonita, in the quarterfinals of the Carioca.
