Flamengo's 2-0 victory over Atlético-MG took the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil Sub-20 to penalties. In the shootout, the Minas Gerais team prevailed (4-3) and advanced to the next phase. Alan Santos and Pedro Leão scored the goals in the match, played this Thursday (6), at Estádio Luso Brasileiro, on Ilha do Governador.

Flamengo's first scoring chance came in the 12th minute, with Daniel Sales receiving a good pass from Joshua and shooting hard, but the ball went straight at the goalkeeper. Following that, from a corner kick on the right, Joshua shot from inside the area and the ball went just wide of the right post. In the 18th minute, Atlético-MG threatened with a shot from João Marcelo, which was very well saved by Leo Nannetti.

Alan Santos scored for Flamengo two minutes later. The striker started the play by stealing the ball in the attacking half and shot firmly into the top right corner of goalkeeper Pedro Cobra's net. At 36 minutes, Da Mata launched Daniel Sales who went to the byline and crossed dangerously. The ball passed through the six-yard box and no one managed to get there to finish. Leo Nannetti made a good save from a cross-shot from the right at 38 minutes. In the next play, inside the area, Joshua attempted a left-footed chip shot and the Atlético defender made a crucial save.

At the start of the second half, the Minas Gerais team attacked. Leo Nannetti parried the first attempt, and then number 8 Cisse shot wide. Flamengo responded in the 14th minute. Pablo passed to Daniel Sales, who made a cross that Camargo almost managed to head in.

Coach Bruno Pivetti's team attacked strongly again in the 18th minute. Alan Santos made the play, Camargo went up into the box, and Douglas Telles narrowly missed the ball. From the resulting corner, Pablo went up but couldn't reach the ball.

After another good save by Leo Nannetti in the 23rd minute from a shot by Iseppe, Flamengo responded with Joshua, who scored a beautiful long-range shot. The ball hit the crossbar before going out. The Flamengo pressure paid off in the 30th minute when Pedro Leão headed in a corner kick from Daniel Sales on the right.

With great fighting spirit, Flamengo had a few more chances to secure qualification in regulation time. However, the decisive goal stubbornly refused to come, and the referee blew the final whistle. In the penalty shootout, Pedro Leão, Alan Santos, and Wanderson scored; Leo Nanneti saved one shot; and Joshua and Douglas Telles missed.
