Flamengo Adidas Cup 2023: results from the first day of matches at Ninho do Urubu
Four matches held in the afternoon at CT George Helal marked the kick-off of the second edition of the competition
By Flamengo Communication - inThe ball rolled for the Flamengo Adidas Cup 2023. In the first round of the competition, held at the George Helal Training Center, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), four clashes shook up the afternoon of this Monday (11) on Fields 3 and 5 of the red-black CT. Mengão competes in the tournament with two teams: one in the U-16 category and another with players up to 15 years old.
Flamengo U-16s faced Orlando City of the United States and won 2-0. Douglas Telles and Joshua scored goals for Flamengo in the first half. Also at 14:30 p.m., Chile's Colo-Colo faced Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño and drew 1-1. Cerro took the lead through Torales, but Villa prevented defeat for "El Cacique."
Then, at 16 p.m., Flamengo's U-15 team was defeated by Arsenal, England, 2-1. Diego opened the scoring for Mengão with a beautiful free kick in the 15th minute of the first half. Also from a set piece, the Gunners leveled the score with Obi converting a penalty. In the 29th minute of the second half, Obi made another appearance, giving Arsenal the win. In the other 16 p.m. match, São Paulo defeated Colombian side Atlético Nacional 1-0. Lucca scored the only goal of the match.
The competition will resume this Tuesday with four more matches. The second round will feature Flamengo U-16 vs. Cerro Porteño and Midtjylland (Denmark) vs. Orlando City (USA) at 9 a.m., Santos Laguna (Mexico) vs. Flamengo U-15 and São Paulo vs. Arsenal at 10:45 a.m.
The Flamengo Adidas Cup 2023 is a U-16 competition, and the competition rules stipulate two 35-minute halves. Fla TV broadcasts all tournament matches live.
