Flamengo Adidas Cup 2023: results from the third day of matches at Ninho do Urubu

Another day of Flamengo Adidas Cup 2023 came to an end at Ninho do Urubu. On the morning of this Wednesday (13), four more matches were played at CT George Helal, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Mengão won the only game it played on the day, with the U-16 team beating Colo-Colo 2-0, and leads Group 1 of the competition, with six points. The Rubro-Negro U-15 team rested in this third round and will play again next Thursday (14).

Flamengo's victory over the Chileans took place on Field 5 of the George Helal Training Center. The first goal came just four minutes into the match. Ryan made a beautiful play and hit the crossbar. A watchful Lucas Vieira pounced on the rebound and found the net. In the 24th minute of the second half, Ryan again made a beautiful play down the left wing and crossed into the box. Colo-Colo's defense tried to clear it, but Fred, inside the box, controlled it and set up a shot, sealing the victory. 

Also at 9:6 am, Midtjylland and Cerro Porteño faced off on Field 2. In a highly charged match, the teams finished 2-2. Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño took a 0-10 lead. Marcelo Xavier Mendieta capitalized on a mistake by the Danish goalkeeper and scored the first goal five minutes into the second half. In the fifth minute, Torales made a good run down the right, crossed into the box, and number 19 Martinez appeared to extend the lead for the Paraguayans. Midtjylland remained undeterred, reducing the deficit in the 36th minute through Bunten. In stoppage time, in the XNUMXth minute, Nicolaj Hansen converted a penalty to level the score. 

Following the match, with the ball rolling at 10:45 am, Atlético Nacional and Arsenal also faced off on Field 6 of Ninho do Urubu and played a high-scoring duel. The English opened the scoring in the 15th minute, with Marciniak capitalizing on a rebound in the six-yard box. Juan Arboleda scored for the Colombians and leveled the score in the 27th minute. The turnaround came in the final stretch of the first half, in the 35th minute, with Juan Marín finishing from the edge of the box, and the third three minutes later, again from Arboleda. In the second half, in the 23rd minute, King pulled one back for the Gunners, but the score stopped there, and the South Americans defeated the Europeans 3-2. 

On Field 5, also at 10:45 a.m., São Paulo defeated Santos Laguna 2-1 and secured another triumph in the 2023 Flamengo Adidas Cup. Despite the victory, the Tricolor didn't have an easy time. Máximo Reyes scored just two minutes into the match, putting the Mexicans ahead. The Brazilian team held on until the end and equalized with the final kick of the first half. Defender and captain Igão rose above everyone and headed in the equalizer. In the second half, in the 25th minute, Lucca sealed the comeback and the victory for the São Paulo team. 

The competition resumes this Thursday with four more matches. The fourth round will feature Colo-Colo vs. Midtjylland and Cerro Porteño vs. Orlando City at 9 a.m., followed by Santos Laguna (Mexico) vs. Atlético Nacional and Flamengo U-15 vs. São Paulo at 10:45 a.m. Mengão's U-16 team will rest this Thursday and return to the field the following day.

The Flamengo Adidas Cup 2023 is a U-16 competition, and the competition rules provide for two 35-minute halves of the match. There are five rounds in the First Phase, Semifinals, and the final, which will be played on Sunday (17). Fla TV will broadcast all the tournament matches live.
