Flamengo's under-20 team got off to a good start in the Eurofarma Super Cup on Monday (July 26.07). Against Uruguay's Peñarol, the Rubro-negro managed to score a single goal, scored by right-back Galhardo, securing the three points with a 1-0 victory. In Group A of the competition, the Rio de Janeiro team is in second place, behind Palmeiras, who beat Porto from Portugal 3-1, also on Monday. Flamengo's next match in the competition will be against Porto on Tuesday (July 27.07), at 12 pm, at Arena Barueri.

Galhardo, who scored Flamengo's goal in the match, explained that he spoke with the executive director of football, Zico, before returning to play for the under-20 team, as he was training with the professionals.

"I came here to contribute and I'm very happy to have helped the team achieve a victory. This championship is important for Flamengo and Zico spoke to me before I went down (to the youth team). I'm glad we won this debut, especially against him," said the right-back, analyzing the game.

"In the first half, we had a few chances, but we weren't able to convert them into goals. In the second half, we improved and weren't able to do so either. But everything worked out and we came away with the victory," he concluded.

The first half was marked by few scoring chances for either side. Flamengo had just one good one. In the 23rd minute, after a good play by Ricardinho, who dribbled past a defender and crossed, midfielder Guilherme arrived unexpectedly at the far post but ended up shooting wide.

For Peñarol, there were only two dangerous chances. In the 26th minute, Fernandes received a through ball through Flamengo's defense, but goalkeeper Cesar stepped up and saved. Three minutes later, Gomes cut in from the right and fired a powerful shot, but the Flamengo goalkeeper saved it again.

Before returning for the second half, Flamengo coach Paulo Henrique explained that the team would return with a different approach, having been somewhat relaxed in the first half. Until the 20th minute, Flamengo truly dominated the match and had four good scoring chances. The most important came from João Vitor, who chipped Peñarol goalkeeper De Maria and was brought down by a defender. However, the referee only awarded a corner.

Soon after, Galhardo received the ball on the left, left two defenders behind with a beautiful dribble, and attempted a lob. With the goalkeeper beaten, the Flamengo full-back was unlucky and ended up seeing the ball go wide, hitting the left post. Peñarol, which hadn't scored against the Flamengo goalkeeper in the second half, proved it wasn't dead in its tracks, scaring goalkeeper Cesar twice. First with Gomes, then with Gutierrez, who shot, but the Flamengo goalkeeper saved one-on-one.

To capitalize on right-back Galhardo's experience, coach Paulo Henrique took off Carlyle and brought on Alex. Galhardo then moved to midfield. Soon after, the Red-Blacks lost defender Marlon, who came off with cramps, making way for Frauches.

Seeing little effect from the changes, Paulo Henrique introduced Eliabe into the lineup in place of Guilherme. It was his pass that allowed Galhardo to score the only goal of the match. After receiving the ball, the full-back fired a powerful shot past the Peñarol goalkeeper, making it 1-0 in the 44th minute.
