Last Saturday (12.10), in Esmeraldoso (MG), Flamengo's under-14 team won the title of the first edition of the Copa Dadazinho Super de Futebol. The national competition, held in honor of former player Dadá Maravilha, was contested between 16 clubs, in Minas Gerais. In the grand final, Flamengo drew with Cruzeiro (0-0) in regulation time and lifted the trophy after winning the penalty shootout 5-3.

"This title is crucial for the development of our athletes. Being a champion is important, because here at Flamengo, we also care about developing winners. Competing in a national competition gives our players the opportunity to experience other cultures and different styles of play. This contact is essential for their growth," explained coach Eduardo Patetuci.

In addition to the title, Flamengo can be proud of two other achievements. Goalkeeper Yago conceded the fewest goals in the Copa Dadazinho Super de Futebol, and number 8 Marcinho, who has played for Mais Querido since 2010, was awarded the competition's best player.

"Marcinho is a very technical and mobile right midfielder. He's skillful and has a great understanding of the game for someone his age. He plays the playmaker role very well, which is sorely lacking in Brazilian football. And Yago is a kid from Acre who's only been at the club for a month and a half. He hasn't conceded a single goal in the competition. Given his quality, he's already arrived and become a starter," said the red-and-black coach.

The 16 clubs in the Copa Dadazinho Super de Futebol were divided into four groups, each with four members. All competition venues were located in Minas Gerais, and Flamengo was one of the four major participants. The other three were Cruzeiro, Coritiba, and Atlético Mineiro, which lost to the "Mais Querido" in the semifinals.
