The month of March was just beginning when Flamengo set off for Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, which is almost two thousand meters above sea level, to compete in the U-20 Libertadores. Twenty-two days later, the journey comes to an end. This Sunday (22), Rubro-Negro will take to the field to compete for the tournament title against Santiago Wanderers-CHI, at 18:30 pm (Brasília time), at the Banco Guayaquil Stadium.

There were four wins and one draw. Ten goals scored and three conceded. These numbers qualified Flamengo, with the best record in the competition so far, to reach the final of the most important youth competition in South America for the third consecutive time. It is worth noting that the delegation arrived in Quito five days before the opening match, aiming to better adapt to the altitude.

The day after qualifying for the title match, following a 2-1 victory over Olimpia-PAR, was a media day for the final, organized by CONMEBOL, the producer of the U-20 Libertadores. Goalkeeper Léo Nannetti, defender João Victor, the Flamengo captain, and number 10 Guilherme were chosen to participate in the event, held at Parque Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, located about 26 km from Quito, and brought together athletes from both finalist teams.

For Santiago Wanderers, the captain and number 10, Lucas Avendaño, goalkeeper Fabiano Avello, and number 18 Alexander Dubó were selected for media day. The Chilean team qualified first in Group C, with seven points (two wins and one draw), seven goals for and three against. In the semi-final, they surprised everyone and defeated Palmeiras 2-1.

After recovery and field training for those who played less than 45 minutes the day before, Flamengo's training schedule for the Libertadores Sub-20 final was completed this Saturday (21), at the Aucas CT, in Quito. Coach Bruno Pivetti, who has the entire squad available, finalized the last details for the duel against Santiago Wanderers. The final will be broadcast on FlamengoTV, with images.
