A Friday (18) will be an international friendly in Gávea. Flamengo's under-20 team will face Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER), at 14:30 pm (Brasília time). The friendly will be broadcast live on Flamengo TV and is part of the German club's pre-season in Rio de Janeiro.
In the first time that a Bundesliga club carries out pre-season in South America, Bayer will train at Ninho do Urubu, the red-black training center, until next Wednesday, July 23.
Flamengo and Bayer Leverkusen have faced each other twice in history. Flamengo won the Kirin Cup at Tokyo's National Stadium, defeating the German club on June 7, 1988. The Brazilian team won 1-0, with a goal by Zico. In the same championship, the two teams drew 1-1 on June 2, 1988. Edinho scored the red-and-black goal.
The relationship between Bayer 04 and Brazil goes back a long way. Since 1987, more than 20 Brazilians have worn the club's jersey, including Paulo Sérgio (now an official club legend), Emerson, Lúcio, Jorginho, and Zé Roberto. Currently, full-back Arthur—German and World Cup champion in 2024—represents Brazil on the squad.
Tickets for the friendly between Flamengo and Bayer Leverkusen will not be sold.
