Flamengo is the champion of the Rio Under-20 Cup
With two goals in the final minutes of the game, Flamengo beats Nova Iguaçu and is in the finals of the Campeonato Carioca
By Communication - Official Club Website - inFlamengo defeated Nova Iguaçu 2-0 in the final of the Rio Junior Cup, becoming the unbeaten champion of the competition. The match was held at the Moça Bonita Stadium in Bangu, and goals from Igor Sartori and Fernandinho came in the 38th and 40th minutes of the second half. The victory guaranteed the Mais Querido a chance to compete in the State finals against Fluminense.
"This is the result of work that has been going on for a long time. In the last two years, we haven't done well in the São Paulo Cup, but we've decided that this year the Campeonato Carioca will be ours. Now, we just have to celebrate the undefeated title," said the red-and-black midfielder João Victor.
Flamengo finished the Taça Rio with the best attack (26 goals scored) and the best defense (5 goals conceded) in the competition. Furthermore, Douglas Baggio, striker for the Mais Querido, is one of the top scorers in the Campeonato Carioca. He has already found the net ten times in the Taça Rio and Taça Guanabara matches combined.
Flamengo will face Fluminense, the current Guanabara Cup champion, for the Campeonato Carioca title. The teams will face each other twice over the next two weekends.
"From now on, we're going to work to beat Fluminense, which is a strong team. We're going to play to be champions," said Digão, Flamengo's right-back who has already scored eight goals in the Campeonato Carioca.
