Late in the afternoon this Wednesday (29), Flamengo played away from home, at the SESC Venda Nova Stadium, in a match valid for the U-20 Brazil Cup and was defeated by Atlético-MG by a score of 2-0. Now, the Garotos do Ninho will need to reverse the score playing at home next Thursday (06), to qualify for the next phase of the competition. Before that, on Sunday (02), They face Botafogo in the Carioca semifinal of the category at the Nilton Santos Stadium.

The game

The two teams started the match cautiously, with midfield battles setting the tone for the opening minutes. However, in a breakaway in the 6th minute, the home side took the lead, opening the scoring with a beautiful long-range shot from João Marcelo, leaving Leo Nannetti with no chance.

Flamengo's first dangerous attack came in the 10th minute, with Camargo shooting hard at the goalkeeper after receiving a pass from Douglas Telles. In the 18th minute, and again with João Marcelo, Atlético extended their lead. The opponent's number 9 took advantage of a loose ball and scored after an individual play by David Kauã. Flamengo, needing to attack, did manage to create chances, but the opposing defense prevailed in the duels, and the Flamengo youth team went into halftime trailing.

In the second half, Flamengo returned to the field and just 3 minutes in, after a cross from Germano, the ball fell to Lucas Vieira who hit the post. On the rebound, Camargo scored for Flamengo, but the assistant referee indicated an offside position for the number 9 and the goal was disallowed.

At 15 minutes, after a foul on Joshua on the left, full-back Vitor Gabriel received his second yellow card and was sent off, giving Flamengo a numerical advantage on the field. However, the advantage didn't last long, as at 20 minutes, Iago was also sent off after a foul in his own half. The Flamengo team continued attacking, trying to minimize the deficit, but the score remained 2-0 until the end of the match.
