Flamengo draws with Palmeiras and fails to advance in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship
Rubro-Negro concedes an equalizer at the end of the match
By John Pedro Ribeiro* - inFlamengo failed to qualify for the second phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. Playing this past Tuesday (14), Mais Querido drew 1-1 with Palmeiras, at the Martins Pereira stadium, in São José dos Campos-SP. With the result, Rubro-Negro said goodbye to the tournament with three points and fourth place in group D.
The goals only came in the second half. In the 37th minute, Trindade opened the scoring for Flamengo with a low shot into the goalkeeper's corner. The Red-Blacks needed two more goals to qualify, but in the 44th minute, Palmeiras equalized thanks to a solo play by Kauê, who shook off two defenders to equalize. The result eliminated both teams.

The Under-20's next match will be Saturday (18), against Volta Redonda, for the Rio Cup, in Gávea. In the competition, Mais Querido is the leader with 27 points in 12 games played. Rubro-Negro is also the current champion of the São Paulo Cup and recent champion of the Super Classics Tournament.
