On the weekend before the grand final of the U-20 Copa do Brasil, the Garotos do Ninho returned to the field with a mission as noble as winning the national title: mathematically securing the best campaign in the overall standings of the State Championship and, consequently, every possible advantage in the decisive stages of the competition. And the objective was achieved. In a match played this Sunday morning (June 11.06) in Los Larios, Flamengo drew 2-2 with Tigres (Lincoln and Bill), and in addition to securing the top spot in the State Championship and qualification for the semifinals of the Taça Rio and the overall State Championship, extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games. Now, the team focuses and turns its attention to the second and decisive game of the Copa do Brasil final against Atlético MG, which will be played next Friday (June 16.06) at 16 pm, at Ilha do Urubu. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw.

The match in Xerém was very even and hard-fought from the first minute. Playing at home and needing a win to even hope of qualifying for the Taça Rio semifinals, Tigres took the lead in the 13th minute through Edson Gaúcho. The red-and-blacks only equalized in the second half, with Lincoln in the 26th minute. Immediately afterward, when Flamengo was much better, Marcinho scored the home team's second with a beautiful free kick. The "Mais Querido" pressed until the end and managed to equalize. In the 41st minute, Jardeu passed the ball to Bill, who shot against the crossbar. In the next play, in the 42nd minute, Luiz Henrique left Bill one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and this time he made no mistake. With Brayan's red card and Wesley's thigh injury, the "Garotos do Ninho" finished the match with two men down. Still, they fought hard and left the field with the important draw and the overall lead in the state championship secured.
