Flamengo faces Santos at Raulino de Oliveira in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship
With achievements in the first half of the year, Fla wants to continue the good moment experienced in the season

Riding high after a good comeback win against Atlético-PR in the opening match of the Brazilian Championship, Mais Querido hosts Santos this Thursday (12), at 20:30 pm, at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, in Volta Redonda (RJ), for the second round of the national competition. Flamengo leads group D with three points.
Despite not performing very well in the last two editions of the Brazilian U-20 Championship, failing to advance to the second phase, this year the Flamengo youth team wants to write a different story in the competition. In 2018, the U-20 team already won the Copinha (São Paulo Junior Cup), the Carioca Championship, and the Trofeo Dossena in Italy, and now, according to coach Márcio Torres, the Brazilian Championship becomes the number one priority for the second half of the year.
"Flamengo is driven by victories, and it's no different in the youth system. We work to develop players, but to develop them by winning. The Brazilian Championship bothers us because we haven't made it past the first phase in the last two years. Winning the Brazilian Championship is our main objective this semester, and that's the goal to be achieved. Just because we won the São Paulo Cup, the Carioca Championship, and the tournament in Italy doesn't mean we should stop. We are driven by victories. Flamengo enters every championship to win. Of course, it's not an easy tournament; the best teams in Brazil are there, there are no easy games, but we are prepared and focused because every game will be a final. Who knows, maybe at the end of the year we'll have a double win with the Brazilian Championship titles in both the professional and under-20 categories?"

Flamengo vs. Santos:
In their first match of the Brazilian U-20 Championship, Flamengo traveled to Curitiba to face Atlético-PR and won the match 3-1, coming from behind. The home team was winning until the 14th minute of the second half when, in less than five minutes, Flamengo turned the score around with goals from Vitor Gabriel, Ramon, and Klebinho.
Because the groups each have five clubs, one of those clubs doesn't play in each round, and that's what happened with Santos in the first round of the Brasileirão. As a result, the Vila Belmiro team has zero points, sharing last place with Atlético-PR.
Form of dispute:
The championship is played in four phases. In the first phase, 20 clubs form four groups of five teams each, from which the top two teams per group qualify. In the second phase, the clubs form two groups of four teams each, with two teams per group qualifying for the semifinals and then the final. It's worth noting that in the first phase, matches are single-leg matches; from the second phase onward, teams play home-and-away until the final.
