After debuting in the São Paulo Junior Cup with a rout against Sampaio Corrêa, the red-black under-20 team returns to the field this Tuesday (06.01), against Vilhena. The match, valid for the second round of the tournament, takes place at 19 pm, at the Municipal Stadium Prefeito José Liberatti, in Osasco.
With goals from Cafu, Jajá, and Douglas Baggio (two), the Mais Querido (the "Most Beloved") prevailed over its first opponent, securing the lead in Group Q of the Copinha. Vilhena, despite losing its match against Osasco, promises to give Flamengo a tough game to secure its first good result in the competition. Aware of what it faces, Flamengo coach Zé Ricardo says he is well prepared to avoid any surprises. "We've been searching extensively for information in the states of each club we'll face in this first phase. The opposing team in question came to Santo André for preseason training and played some friendlies. Furthermore, we watched their first match in the competition and were able to prepare well," he said.
Even knowing how difficult the São Paulo Junior Cup is, Zé Ricardo believes that the team's development and effectiveness can make all the difference. "It's a difficult tournament, and any achievement must be achieved in stages. We have to avoid setbacks to qualify and avoid surprises in the next stage. We had a good performance in the debut, we have room for improvement, but they were very effective in what we planned. With the victory, we tend to gain confidence, but we can't underestimate our opponents," concluded the coach.
In today's match, the under-20 team will wear a black stripe on the crest, in mourning the death of Renato Noval, football director in the 1970s and 1980s and a benefactor of the club. Renato was the father of Carlos Noval, executive director of youth football, who passed away on Monday night (05.01).
