Flamengo reigns supreme in the Campeonato Carioca de Juniores. Last Wednesday afternoon, the red-and-black youth team comfortably defeated Olaria 3-0, maintaining their undefeated lead in the competition with five wins and one draw. Furthermore, the team boasts the best defense, the best attack, and the tournament's top scorer.

Coach Armênio Moura's team is enjoying a great run and is increasingly in contention for the title in the first round of the competition, which is slightly different from the professional tournament. In the under-20 category, the Carioca is also divided into two rounds, with the champions of each round facing off in the final. However, there is no knockout stage in either the Guanabara Cup or the Rio Cup. Both are played on a points-based basis, which currently favors Flamengo, who leads the table with 16 points (five wins and one draw).

"The team did well against Olaria, dominating the game, and scoring goals at the right moments. The work is being done well, and the boys deserve congratulations. We're leading the championship, we have the best attack, the best defense, and the league's top scorer. But we can't relax about this," said coach Armênio Moura.

Besides being the undisputed leader, two points ahead of second-place Botafogo, Flamengo boasts the tightest defense in the competition (allowing only four goals) and the best attack, with an incredible 17 goals scored. The main reason for this lies largely with top scorer Diego Maurício. The number 10 has scored eight goals in five games.

"Diego is a very important player and is improving a lot. Now, in addition to scoring goals, he is also improving as a waiter. In the Fla x Flu, for example, he didn't score a goal, but the entire play that led to Juninho's goal was his," concluded Armênio.

Flamengo's next challenge in the competition is next Saturday, at 10 am, at the Caio Martins stadium, in Niterói, against Boavista.
