In normal time, it was exactly what was expected: a very even match. The game was open, with clear chances for both sides, but no goals. And, once again, Flamengo had to decide its fate in the Copa São Paulo de Juniores on penalties. Back in the semifinals after 13 years, the Red-Blacks drew 0-0 with Desportivo Brasil, and the fight for a spot in the final was left to penalty kicks.
Cesar's star then shone. The goalkeeper saved a penalty, two other São Paulo team takers shot wide, and Flamengo, despite Thomas missing the first penalty, won the match 3-0 and is in the Copa São Paulo final. The final is on Tuesday at 10 am at Pacaembu Stadium, against América-MG or Bahia. Flamengo hadn't made it this far in the competition in 20 years. And when they did, in 1990, they were crowned champions by beating Juventus 1-0 in the final.
Goalkeepers guarantee a zero-zero result
The first half of the match belonged to the goalkeepers. On one side, César. On the other, Augusto. And if it weren't for them, the score could have been very different. Desportivo Brasil started the game better. The first ten minutes were spent under intense pressure from the Porto Feliz team. The Flamengo defense, however, held firm, and after overcoming the opponent's initial attacks, Flamengo also began to loosen up.
In the 11th minute, in one of the Gávea team's first good attacks, Luis Phelipe took a beautiful shot from outside the box, but Augusto saved it. The game then became very lively, but without any major scoring chances. Flamengo only managed to attack on two more occasions: in the 34th minute, with Lucas's header, and in the 37th minute, in a move very similar to the one in the 11th minute, with a shot from outside the box by Luis, once again saved by Augusto.

Then, Paulo Henrique made changes to the team. Six minutes in, Rafinha came on for Maicon, and as in every other match of the competition, he made the Gávea team thrive.
