On Sunday morning (16.08), Flamengo won the Rio Sub-20 Cup title. Despite the defeat to Botafogo in the first match, the Mais Querido recovered and won the second leg 5-2. Already champion of the Guanabara Cup, the Rubro-Negro also became early champion of the Carioca.

In the first leg, at Gávea, Botafogo had won 3-2. Flamengo needed a score of more than two goals to take the title, which they hadn't won since 2007. And the team entered the field at Engenhão aware of their mission.

In the 23rd minute, Thiago Santos opened the scoring for Flamengo. Before halftime, however, Botafogo equalized. At halftime, Zé Ricardo made a substitution that would prove to be a good one. Cafu entered the match. Just four minutes into the second half, Douglas Baggio converted a penalty. In the tenth minute, Cafu passed to the top scorer, who scored his second. Even with a result that would have brought the title to Gávea, the team didn't stop. Marquinhos scored the fourth for the Mais Querido. Botafogo pulled one back, but Paquetá also scored his own late in the match.

Coach Zé Ricardo also celebrated the title. "Since my return to the club, I've dreamed of this moment. The U-20s are a very important category. The club produces a lot of talent. Although we know that winning isn't the only thing that makes the youth team, it had been a long time since we won," he said.
