Flamengo begins its journey towards its fifth Copinha title

Mais Querido is the current champion of the competition and will debut against River-PI

Flamengo is ready to defend its title in the most famous youth competition in Brazilian football. The "Garotos do Ninho" are the current champions of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup and begin their journey towards their fifth title this Thursday (03). The "Mais Querido" will face River-PI, at 16 pm, in Jaguariúna.

The red-and-black squad is in Group 15 and will compete in the first stage of the 2019 Copinha in Jaguariúna. In addition to the home team, the group also includes River Plate, Piauí, and Trindade, Goiás.

Flamengo is the club with the best record in finals, winning the four finals it has played in (1990, 2011, 2016 and 2018).

On the eve of the debut in the São Paulo Junior Football Cup, coach Maurício Souza spoke about the preparations that were made for the competition and projected the match for the red-black debut.

"Our preparation was very well done throughout the entire process. We arrived for our debut in this important competition fully prepared and aware of all the challenges we will face, which will be many. Our squad is very strong, and we have a very competent team, which gives these boys all the necessary support so they can focus solely on performing at their best on the field. We arrived to be champions. When you wear this jersey, the title is always the objective."

With headquarters established in Jaguariúna (SP), Rubro-Negro will play all of its first phase matches at the local stadium.
