In the second round of the Copa Rio Sub-20, Flamengo lost to Nova Iguaçu, 1-0, this Saturday (9), in Gávea. In the next round, the Garotos do Ninho face Volta Redonda, away from home.
The game
The match began with both teams battling for possession. In the 9th minute, the red-and-black defense faltered, and Carlos Henrique opened the scoring for Nova Iguaçu at Gávea: 1-0. After the goal, the Garotos do Ninho pressed forward in search of an equalizer, but struggled to penetrate the opposing defense.
In the 26th minute, Gusttavo took a low free kick into the corner, but the goalkeeper jumped to make the save. Flamengo created a threat in the 35th minute. Rodriguinho, from the left, crossed into the box for Guilherme to volley. The ball went just wide of the post. Adriel then received the ball at the edge of the box and fired a shot, but the ball hit the crossbar. The first half ended with a partial victory for Nova Iguaçu.
Needing to turn the score around, the Garotos do Ninho pressed forward and pressured the team from the Baixada region early in the second half. The red-and-black team held possession but struggled to create chances to reach Nova Iguaçu's box. Fla fought until the end, but ended up suffering their second defeat of the competition.
