In the quarterfinals of the Guanabara U-20 Cup, Flamengo lost to Nova Iguaçu 3-2 on Monday afternoon (05), in Gávea. The red-black goals were scored by Werton and Mateus Dias, from a penalty. It is always good to remember that Mais Querido competes in the competition with its U-18 team, since the U-20 is participating in the Brazilian Championship of the category.

The game
Flamengo started the match strongly and opened the scoring after just three minutes. Maycon took a free kick from the edge of the box, which the goalkeeper palmed into the path of Werton, who simply had to tap it into the back of the net: 1-0. After the goal, Mengão continued to press Nova Iguaçu, exchanging quick passes in the attacking half.

In the 17th minute, Nova Iguaçu leveled the score with Canela, who received the ball at speed and fired a low shot past Victor Hugo, making it 1-1. After the equalizer, the game became quite choppy, with the Baixada Fluminense team stopping plays with fouls. Late in the first half, Flamengo tried to pressure Nova Iguaçu's attack and created a few chances, but the score remained tied.

Early in the second half, Flamengo created a dangerous situation. Richard received the ball on the left edge of the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot, which the goalkeeper made a good save. Flamengo was looking to take the lead and was putting pressure on Nova Iguaçu in their own half. Around the tenth minute, Flamengo had four consecutive corners. In the 14th minute, Flamengo was awarded a penalty. Everton stepped up to take the shot and fired wide.

Then, after a corner kick, Nova Iguaçu's left-back Mezenga rose between the defenders and headed the ball into the net: 2-1. Trailing on the scoreboard, the Rubro-Negro went on the attack looking for the equalizer that would have secured qualification. In the 34th minute, Mengão was awarded a penalty. Mateus Dias stepped up to take the kick and beat the goalkeeper: 2-2.

Shortly after the equalizer, João Gabriel, who came on in the second half, received a red card, leaving Flamengo down one man. In stoppage time, Nova Iguaçu scored the winning goal through Ezequiel, securing their place in the semifinals.
