Flamengo U-15 thrashes Volta Redonda and is the champion of the Guanabara Cup

Flamengo's U-15 team, led by coach Leonardo Cherede, took to the legendary pitch at Gávea Stadium on Saturday afternoon (8) to face Volta Redonda in the final round of the Guanabara Cup, knowing they needed to score a goal difference over Fluminense to be crowned champions. Mission accomplished! The Boys from the Nest won 8-1 (David [4], Hidaka, Joshua, Kaio and Bidu). Fluminense only beat Audax 3-0. With this, Mengão won its 28th title of the season, equaling the all-time record for youth titles in a single season.

The Game

The Most Beloved went on the attack from the opening whistle, and opened the scoring in the 17th minute with David. In the 27th minute, David received the ball in the box, dribbled past the goalkeeper, and extended the lead. In the 35th minute, Hidaka scored from the penalty spot to score Mengão's third. Volta Redonda pulled one back in the 37th minute, thanks to Teixeira.



Fluminense was leading Audax 1-0, and the Ninho Boys returned for the second half looking to secure the title with more goals. And they came in quick succession. In the 12th minute, David hit a cross-shot to make it 4-1. Shortly thereafter, in the 16th minute, David converted a penalty kick and scored his fourth goal of the game and 28th of the season. In the 22nd minute,After a great play by Gabriel Mathew, Kaio hit it first and scored the sixth for Mais Querido.

There was still room for more. In the 38th minute, Joshua showed great opportunism, scoring the seventh goal from a corner kick. And in the 40th minute, Bidu hit a cross-shot to make it 8-1 for Mengão, putting the final number on the scoreboard and securing the Guanabara Under-15 Cup title for the Ninho Boys.

U-17 wins 4-2 and advances to the quarterfinals

Earlier, the U-17 team took the field already qualified for the quarterfinals of the Guanabara Cup. Even so, the Rubro-Negro took the match against Volta Redonda seriously, winning 4-2 (Wallace Yan [2], Felipe Lima, and Gonçalo). In the quarterfinals, the Rubro-Negro will face Botafogo. The first game will be next weekend in Gávea.
