Mengão's U-16 team debuted in the 2022 season with a rout. In a duel held on the hot morning of this Monday (07) at the traditional Rua Bariri Stadium, the Garotos do Ninho, led by coach Leo Ramos, thrashed Olaria 7-1 (Luan Andrey [3], Schlickmann, Dudu, David and Alonso against), in a duel valid for the first round of the group stage of the 2022 Olaria Renovado Cup. This Tuesday (08), Mais Querido returns to the field and faces Portuguesa, in the second round. A new victory will give Rubro-Negro early qualification for the competition's semifinal. On Wednesday (09), Flamengo ends its participation in the group stage, playing the classic against Vasco. The other group is composed of Fluminense, Botafogo, Madureira and Porto Real. The first two in each group guarantee a place in the semifinal.

The Ninho Boys dominated the game from the opening whistle and had absolute control of the action, but only created their first opportunity ten minutes into the match, when Luan Andrey made a fine individual play and crossed low to Guilherme, who struck first time, but goalkeeper Lucas made a solid save. In the 16th minute, Mengão opened the scoring. Pedrinho was brought down at the edge of the box. Schlickmann skillfully took the free kick into the corner, scoring the first goal for the red-and-black team in the 2022 Olaria Renovado Cup.

Soon after, in the 18th minute, Flamengo extended their lead. After a great play by coach Leo Ramos on another free kick near the box, Schlickmann passed the ball to the penalty spot for Luan Andrey, who struck first time for his first goal of the match. Flamengo added their third before halftime. Luan Andrey made another beautiful play down the right side of the Flamengo attack, outpacing the opposing defense, and passed the ball perfectly to Dudu, who only had to tap it into the back of the net.

Mengão didn't slow down in the second half. In the fourth minute, Luan Andrey scored the fourth. And in the following minute, in the fifth minute, Luan Andrey again, positioned perfectly inside the box, tested Lucas with no chance, scoring his hat trick of the match and making it five for the Boys from the Nest. In the 16th minute, David added the sixth, with his first touch after coming on. Coach Leo Ramos made changes to the entire team, but Flamengo continued to attack until the final minute. In the 29th minute, defender Alonso attempted to clear the ball and headed the ball into his own net, scoring the seventh for the Mais Querido. Olaria scored their consolation goal in the 32nd minute, with a beautiful shot from outside the box by Pedro Henrique.
