In the first leg of the Carioca Sub-17 quarterfinals, Flamengo beat Bangu 2-0 on Saturday morning (30), in Moça Bonita. Mengão's goals were scored by Jonathan and Petterson. With the result, Mengão gained a good advantage for the return leg, which will be played in Gávea.
The game
The match began with Flamengo taking the initiative, exchanging passes in the attacking half. The red-and-black team pressed Bangu in search of the first goal. The home team, in turn, launched forward with long balls. In the 18th minute, Matheus Gonçalves headed the ball into the box, the ball bounced off the defense and fell to Victor Hugo, who attempted a shot, but the ball went out of bounds.
Soon after, Mengão opened the scoring! Petterson took a shot from outside the box, and Jonathan, well-positioned, pounced on the rebound and slotted it into the goalkeeper's corner: 1-0. Three minutes later, Flamengo extended their lead. Victor Hugo made a good run down the right and crossed into the box. The ball found Petterson, who skillfully tapped it into the net, scoring his fourth goal of the competition: 2-0.
At a disadvantage, Bangu began to push forward more and threatened Dyogo Alves' goal more, making good saves. The first half ended with the red-and-blacks dominating the game.
In the second half, Bangu retreated further back, leaving Flamengo with little room to create many chances. In the 24th minute, Petterson advanced down the left, burst into the box, and hit a cross. The ball just missed the goalkeeper's left post. In the 28th minute, Petterson again attempted a cross into the box, but the ball curled, hitting the crossbar, and nearly fooled the goalkeeper.
In the closing stages, Flamengo again created several scoring chances, narrowly missing out on a third through Petterson, whose low shot from the edge of the box flew just wide of the post. Having dominated the match throughout, the Garotos do Ninho emerged from the field with an excellent result in the first leg of the Carioca U-17 quarterfinals.
Next appointment
Mais Querido returns to the field next Thursday (4) to face Bangu again, at 11 am, in Gávea, for the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Carioca Sub-17.
