After debuting in the Brazilian Championship by beating São Paulo 4-0, Flamengo's U-20 team, led by coach Mario Jorge, ended its preparations this Saturday morning (18) for the match against Palmeiras, valid for the second round of the national competition. The training took place at the Corinthians youth football training center in São Paulo.
After four years, the "Garotos do Ninho" (Nest Boys) return to play an official match at the traditional Canindé Stadium. On their last visit, in 2018, Mengão's U-20 team defeated Portuguesa 3-2 in a comeback victory, qualifying for the Copa São Paulo grand final. Subsequently, "Mais Querido" defeated São Paulo 1-0 at Pacaembú, securing their fourth title in the competition.
"Our travel logistics for this game were very well thought out, and the fact that we had this final training session here in São Paulo was very positive. We expect to play a great game tomorrow, and I'm sure the fans who come to the stadium or watch on TV will see a great game of football," said coach Mario Jorge. He also spoke about the opportunity to work for the first time in a stadium that brings back fond memories for Flamengo's U-20 team:
"I'll be at Canindé for the first time, but I know it's a stadium that brings back great memories for Flamengo, especially after the victory in the Copinha semifinal in 2018. A very traditional venue in Brazilian football, I'm happy to have the opportunity to work there tomorrow, and I hope we can achieve a great victory," concluded the Flamengo coach.
