And Flamengo is in the final of the Conmebol Libertadores U-20. The "Garotos do Ninho" secured their spot this Thursday by defeating Danubio-URU 1-0 in San Lorenzo, Paraguay. Daniel Sales scored the red-and-black goal.
The grand final will take place next Sunday (16), against Palmeiras, with the time to be confirmed by the organization. It is worth mentioning that Mengão reaches the final for the second time in a row, when last year, they won the title against Boca Juniors.
The game
In the first good arrival, after a corner taken from the right side, João Alves kicked hard and the ball went close to the post
In the 7th minute, Rayan Lucas passed from midfield to midfielder Pablo. The number 8 received the ball alone at the edge of the six-yard box, but sent it over the crossbar.
Minutes later, Flamengo nearly scored with the same Pablo. Striker Shola sent a pass down the left to Felipe Teresa. The number 7 sent a low cross into the box, and Pablo fired a shot, but the goalkeeper saved it.
In the 17th minute, a brilliant play by Rayan Lucas passed to Felipe Teresa. The striker fired a well-placed shot that just missed the corner of the Uruguayan goal.
A minute later it was Daniel Sales' turn to try a good shot, which the goalkeeper partially saved.
And the goal finally came in the 22nd minute. Carbone tried a low shot from the left and the ball fell in the middle of the area, for Daniel Sales to shoot with his left foot to open the scoring.
At 30, Shola missed a goal head to head.
In the second half, the absolute dominance of coach Cleber dos Santos's team was undone. With their opponent desperately seeking an equalizer and their defenses higher, the red-and-blacks struggled to create scoring chances.
The plays on the sides of the field, mainly using Shola's speed, ended up not being completed on goal.
In the final minutes, Flamengo managed to withstand the pressure and secured the result.
