The first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship is played in a single round-robin format by the 20 participating teams. The top eight advance to the quarterfinals. Flamengo will have a direct confrontation against Athletico-PR, this Tuesday (9), at 15 pm, at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium, in Gávea, for the 15th round of the competition. A victory in the match, which will mark the debut of coach Marcelo Salazar and his assistant Sandro Sargentim, will leave Rubro-Negro in the qualifying zone.

Currently, Flamengo occupies ninth position in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, with 21 points, while their next opponent is in sixth place with 22. If the Flamengo team wins the three points, they will overtake the Paraná team and, at a minimum, secure eighth place, depending on other results.

The presentation of Marcelo Salazar as coach of the Flamengo U-20 team took place on June 1st, at Ninho do Urubu. Previously, the coach was in charge of the Al-Nassr U-21 team, in Saudi Arabia. Salazar, alongside Sargentim, led the first training session on the same day he was presented and concluded the training schedule to face Athletico this Monday (8), on field 6 of CT George Helal.
