Flamengo dropped its first points in the Campeonato Carioca de Juniores on Wednesday afternoon in Gávea. Despite playing at home and having an extra player for the entire second half, coach Armênio Moura's team was unable to overcome Americano, who opened the scoring in the first half, and ended up with a 1-1 draw in this fourth round of the state championship.
The Flamengo lineup was: Marcelo Carné, Galhardo (Alex), Christianno, Michel Pereira, and Anderson; Luis Antônio (Maicon), João Vitor, Ricardinho (Guilherme), and Dieguinho; Juninho and Dudu. With this result, the red-and-blacks reach 10 points in the competition and remain in first place. Next Sunday, the team plays the preliminary round of the derby against Fluminense at the Maracanã stadium at 17:15 p.m.
The first half was largely dominated by Flamengo, but Americano was the one who scored. A heavily modified Flamengo team managed to exchange good passes and get forward quickly, but they lacked playmaking and didn't have many scoring opportunities. The home side's best chance came in the 29th minute, when defender Christianno headed the ball wide. Then, in the 42nd minute, Americano forward Anderson took a shot, but Marcelo saved it, and the visitors were in front.
The lead, however, was short-lived, as in the 45th minute, the Campos team had a player sent off: striker Thiago. Motivated to turn the match around and with an extra man, Flamengo returned in the second half pressing, as in the first half, but again with the same problem: creating few scoring chances. However, they still managed to equalize in the 15th minute.
Center forward Dudu received the ball with his back to goal, pivoted, and set up Junino, who skillfully tapped it past the Americano goalkeeper: 1-1. From then on, Flamengo launched an attack, risking counterattacks. Coach Armênio Moura took off Galhardo and Ricardinho to bring on Alex and Guilherme. João Vitor also left the field to bring on Maicon. The team continued to control the game. They persisted, persisted, but were unable to turn the game around.
