Mengão defeated Volta Redonda! Playing away from home, the red-and-black team defeated Botafogo this Saturday in the third round of the Brazilian Championship. With the result, the team led by coach Mário Jorge reached 6 points and entered the top four of Group A.

The game
Bolstered by attacking midfielder Matheus Gonçalves, who had been playing for the senior squad in recent games, the Mais Querido (Most Beloved) sought quick plays down the flanks in the first half. In the 24th minute, Matheus Gonçalves, showcasing his skill, made a beautiful individual play and nearly scored. The goalkeeper's rebound revealed Werton to be offside. A minute later, the same Werton attempted a low shot from outside the box that sailed just wide of the opponent's left post.

After the break, the red-blacks set out in search of the 3 points.

In the 18th minute, Peterson made an individual play and was brought down inside the box: a penalty. Ryan Luka took the penalty and, with skill, made it 1-0 for Flamengo.

After making changes midway through the game, Flamengo maintained their momentum and held on to the lead. In the final opportunity, Ecuadorian Ariel narrowly missed extending the lead.

Flamengo's next match in the Brazilian Championship will be on Wednesday (22), against Bragantino, at 15 pm, in Gávea.
