In a game held on Thursday afternoon (09), at Caio Martins, in Niterói, Flamengo achieved an excellent result by beating Botafogo 2 x 1 and overtook their rival in the Taça Rio Sub-20 standings. The General Severiano team started the 12th round at the top, with 26 points, two more than Mais Querido. With the victory, Rubro-Negro regained the lead in the competition and also won the Super Classics Tournament for the second time, a competition played by the four big teams in Rio simultaneously with the Carioca Sub-20.

It took ten minutes for the match to be decided. Lucas, a Mengão player, opened the scoring in the second minute and scored again in the fifth. Botafogo pulled one back in the ninth minute with Alison. In the second half, Flamengo suffered a red card but held on despite being a man down in the final minutes.

With the victory, the Gávea U-20 team finished the Super Classics Tournament with 12 points, four wins in six derbies, leaving Botafogo in second place with nine. Fluminense finished third with five, and Vasco finished last, earning just four points from their matches against their rivals. In the Rio U-20 Cup, Flamengo leads with 27 points, one more than second-place Botafogo.

In the next round, Flamengo will face Volta Redonda at home in Gávea on the 19th at 15 pm. Before that, the team led by interim coach Gilmar Popoca, the U-17 team, will try to qualify for the next stage of the Brazilian Championship. The last game of the group stage takes place on Tuesday (14), against Palmeiras, at 17 pm, at the Martins Pereira stadium, in São José dos Campos/SP. To qualify, Flamengo needs to win and hope for a stumble by Ponte Preta against leaders Internacional, or secure an advantage in goal difference – Flamengo currently has a one-goal advantage.
