On Saturday afternoon (14), at the Conselheiro Galvão Stadium, in Madureira, Flamengo beat the home team 2x1 in the first leg of the Quarterfinals of the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament, with goals from Yago and Fred.

The game

The home side had their first big chance of the game in the 10th minute. A well-worked attacking move by the Tricolor from the suburbs almost resulted in the game's first goal, but the shot went wide.

The match remained tight, with both teams fighting fiercely for possession but without creating any significant chances. It took a set piece for Mengão to break through Madureira's defense and open the scoring. After a corner kick from Fred in the 25th minute, defender Yago rose higher than the opposing defense and scored for the Garotos do Ninho!

In the 33rd minute, striker Alan Santos almost increased Flamengo's lead after a good individual play, but his shot from outside the box ended up going over the goal.

At 40, Madureira almost scored the equalizer, in a counter-attack, with a shot from number 9, 

Soon after, Mengão responded, in a dangerous attack, Felipe Lima had a shot blocked by the defense and then, the goalkeeper managed to save. 

As the first half drew to a close, in the 45th minute, Fred doubled the red-and-blacks' lead after receiving an assist from Alan Santos. It was Mengão's second goal of the game.

In the second half, Mengão continued the same tone as the first half, attacking and trying to increase their lead. In the 12th minute, Guilherme nearly made it three.

But on the very next play, Madureira managed to reduce the deficit with a goal from number 23, Guilherme Fontenelle. With the red-and-black team only one goal ahead, the suburban Tricolor launched more attacks in search of an equalizer, making the match more even.

Madureira continued to press and even managed to maintain a numerical advantage after Luiz Phellipe was sent off in the 48th minute of the second half. However, there was no time for much further attacking action.

Return match

Now, Mengão has a good advantage for the return match next Saturday (21), in Gávea. Whoever gets through the match will face Fluminense or Nova Iguaçu.
