The Garotos do Ninho (Nest Boys) secured a victory and qualified for the Conmebol Libertadores U-20 Championship. Playing this Tuesday, in the second round of Group A, Flamengo defeated Danubio-URU 3-1 at Carfem, in the city of Ypané, Paraguay, and qualified for the semifinals of the competition. Felipe Teresa, Iago and Da Mata scored the goals for the red-black team, all in the second half.

The game

With the addition of defender Iago, recently a South American champion with the Brazilian U-20 team, the red-and-black team entered this match with a new lineup. João Alves and Felipe Lima were the other new additions to the starting lineup.

With 80% possession in the first half, Flamengo could have had better luck. Flamengo's best chance came late in the 38th minute, when Guilherme unleashed a low shot from outside the box. The ball hit the post and went in. Miraculously, the opposing goalkeeper managed to clear it.

Early in the second half, Mengão demonstrated its imposing play. Daniel Sales was released down the right, passed the ball to the edge of the six-yard box, and Felipe Teresa, with a beautiful shot, opened the scoring: 1-0.

In a foul poorly called by the referee, the Uruguayan team equalized with a free kick.

But it didn't take long for Flamengo to score again. Guilherme was awarded a penalty. Defender Iago, the team captain, took the penalty with aplomb to make it 2-1. 

At 34, it was defender Da Mata's turn to score, with a header from a free kick taken from the left side. 

The last match in the qualifying phase will be held next Friday (7), against O'Higgins-CHI at 19 pm, also at the Carfem stadium.
