With two first-half goals, Flamengo defeated Maricá 2-0 in the first round of the Rio U-17 Cup this Saturday at José Bastos Padilha Stadium in Gávea. The goals were scored by Emanuel and João Ricardo.

The next commitment of the under-17 team, led by coach Eduardo Franklin, will be in the Brazilian Championship of the category. The Garotos do Ninho will face Vasco da Gama next Thursday (14), at 18 pm, in São Januário.

After a 5-1 victory in the under-15 category, Flamengo headed into their second match against Maricá of the day, this time with the under-17 team. The youngsters started strong, and Flamengo scored in the first minute of the match, with number 7 Emanuel. Things seemed to be going smoothly, but that wasn't to be. The opponent stepped up their game and began to threaten. They nearly equalized in the 11th minute, but luckily the ball hit the crossbar.

Flamengo was still under some pressure from Maricá when, in the 22nd minute, João Ricardo doubled the lead and scored the second goal of the match. The advantage brought more peace of mind to the red-and-black team, which began to control the result and suffered no further scares until the end of the first half.

Just four minutes into the second half, Emanuel nearly scored a third goal, hitting the Maricá goalkeeper's left post. The game continued without any significant scoring chances for either team. Flamengo had more possession, attacked more frequently, and when they came closest, goalkeeper Matheus made a save.
