Flamengo's under-20 team beat Palmeiras 2-1 this Thursday (29.07) and took first place in group A of the Eurofarma Super Cup, held in Barueri, São Paulo. With the result, the red-black team advanced to the semifinals with a 100% record and now awaits to find out who their opponent will be.

Pleased with the team's performance, coach Paulo Henrique highlighted the tactical obedience of the Gávea boys and hopes that this attitude will be maintained in the decisive phase of the competition.

"These three victories are thanks to the players. They showed improvement in each game and came away with the victory today (Thursday) once again. In every competition, we enter to win, simply because it's Flamengo. We have to congratulate the players' will and determination. They fulfilled everything the coaching staff asked of them in the pre-match talks and conferences. They are the ones who achieved these three victories," said Paulo Henrique.

In the first half, Flamengo showed why they were the group leaders. More cautious than Palmeiras, Flamengo came under pressure in the first 30 minutes and even had a stroke of luck, as goalkeeper Cesar saw two shots hit his crossbar.

However, in the final 15 minutes, Flamengo began to dominate the game, placing greater emphasis on possession. Carlyle was the first to truly trouble the Palmeiras goalkeeper. After a fine exchange of passes, the Flamengo striker found himself face-to-face with the goalkeeper but shot wide.

Flamengo's dominance continued until the 44th minute, when Guilherme dribbled through the middle of the Palmeiras defense. The Flamengo midfielder was pulled back by the opponent, but still managed to send the ball into the net. However, the referee had already seen the play, awarded the penalty, and decided to send off the Palmeiras player. It was up to Galhardo to take the shot and convert it: 1-0.

Needing a win, Palmeiras went all out against Flamengo, who replaced Carlyle with Eliabe early in the second half. And the São Paulo team managed to convert the pressure into a goal. Striker Caio equalized with a header in the eighth minute. The green and white team threatened again in the 15th minute, when midfielder Raílson's shot hit the crossbar.

Soon after, right-back Alex came on for striker Dudu, leaving Galhardo free to create plays in midfield. The change paid off, and in the 23rd minute, Flamengo scored again. João Vitor sprinted down the right, entered the Palmeiras box, and crossed. The São Paulo defender got tangled up in his clearance and ended up finishing into his own goal.

After this "cold shower," Palmeiras eventually slowed down, making it easier for Flamengo to secure another victory and a 100% record in the competition. With this result, Flamengo secured first place in Group A and will face the second-place team in Group B, which will be decided later this Thursday night.
