Flamengo defeats Resende away from home in the Rio U-17 Cup

Goals from Rafinha and João Ricardo guarantee an important result in a postponed second round game

Flamengo won three important points in the Rio U-17 Cup, this Wednesday (8), away from home, in a postponed game of the second round of the competition. The team won 2-1 against Resende, at Estádio do Trabalhador, located in the municipality that has the same name as the opponent, in the southern region of the State of Rio. The goals were scored by Rafinha and João Ricardo.

Rafinha scored the first goal in the 31st minute. Resende extended their lead in the 8th minute of the second half. João Ricardo scored after receiving a pass from Rafinha. Resende then reduced the deficit in the 24th minute, sealing the match's lead.

With the result, Flamengo reached 23 points in nine games and could take the lead in the qualifying round. Fluminense and Vasco each have 21 points, with the former having played eight games and the latter nine. Botafogo is fourth with 20 points in nine games.

In the Rio U-15 Cup, also in a postponed second-round match, Flamengo was defeated 3-2 by Resende in the U-17 match. After conceding a goal in the 35th minute of the first half, Flamengo equalized through Guilherme Queiroz, who received the ball from Rafinha and scored. In the 20th minute, Davi Fraga set up Márcio to score the second. The home team, however, equalized in the 30th minute and eventually turned the game around in stoppage time in the 36th.

Flamengo is fourth in the Copa Rio U-15 with 17 points. Fluminense is the leader, followed by Botafogo and Vasco.
