In a match valid for the 15th round of the U-17 Guanabara Cup, Flamengo beat Vasco 1-0, on Saturday afternoon (07), at CT Artsul, in Austin. Under strong heat and with one less player on the field since the first half, Yuri took the penalty that gave the victory and put Mais Querido in the lead of the championship with 38 points. Mengão's next challenge in the championship will be on August 4 against Nova Iguaçu, in Gávea.

In the sweltering heat of Baixada Fluminense, Flamengo and Vasco played a very choppy first half with few opportunities for either team. Flamengo's clearest goal-scoring chance of the first half came in the first minute. Ítalo received a good ball on the left, burst into the box, and shot across goal, hitting Lucão's post with a shot that was barely wide. 

Vasco attacked down the left flank, always with Talles. In the 15th minute, Vasco's number 11 delivered a good cross into the box; goalkeeper Pedro Victor made a partial save, leaving the ball in play inside Flamengo's box. Providentially, defender Lucas Chagas cleared the danger.

Towards the end of the first half, Flamengo suffered a setback. After a ball was divided between Ryan and Bruno, the referee signaled a foul for Flamengo and interpreted it as a red card, sending off Flamengo's number 9.

After the break, Vasco capitalized on their numerical superiority, and Talles's runs down the left flank intensified. In the third minute, after a good exchange of passes at the edge of the box, Vasco's number 3 received the ball inside the box and fired a low shot, which the red-and-black goalkeeper made a good save. 

On the next play, Vasco's left winger crossed into the box and Figueiredo deflected it slightly, forcing goalkeeper Pedro Victor to make a two-time save. In the 19th minute, Flamengo's number 10, Yuri, took a free kick into the Vasco box, and Natan deflected it into the goal. The ball flew inches wide of the post before going out over the goal line. Flamengo nearly opened the scoring.

Down one man, Flamengo remained organized on defense and capitalized on counterattacks and lofted balls into the opposing box. And so it was, after another lofted ball into the box, that Natan nearly opened the scoring in the 30th minute.

Mengão was the better team at this point. In the 32nd minute, Yuri received the ball inside the box and fired a dangerous cross-shot, which deflected off the defender before going out. Following the play, the number 10 took the corner kick, the Vasco defender cleared it, but the ball hit his teammate's arm, and the referee awarded a penalty. Yuri himself stepped up to take the kick and, displacing the goalkeeper, gave Mengão the lead.

Late in the match, the team from São Januário had a great chance. Riquelme took a superb free kick from the front, forcing the Flamengo goalkeeper to jump to prevent the goal. In stoppage time, Lucas Gabriel received a good ball on the left and attempted a lob, but the ball capriciously went out of play. And that was how Flamengo took the lead in the Taça Guanabara, down one man, thanks to the grit and talent of the Garotos do Ninho.
