TWO-TIME CHAMPION! In the second leg of the Copa Rio Sub-17 final, Flamengo defeated Vasco 6-5 on penalties on Monday afternoon (17) at São Januário, becoming the tournament's two-time champion, having already won the previous edition. In regular time, the home team won 1-0.

Having won the first leg 2-1 at Gávea, the match went to penalties, and Mengão prevailed. This was the first title for coach Filipe Luís, who will now face the challenge of leading the U-20 team.

The game
The derby started with a lively atmosphere, with both teams looking to attack. Before the ten-minute mark, Flamengo created two opportunities to open the scoring, both through Joshua. The Boys from the Nest were more likely to attack.

After the technical timeout, the red-and-black team began to occupy the entire attacking field and created several chances to score the first goal, forcing the goalkeeper to work. In the 36th minute, Pablo attempted a shot from the edge of the box, but the goalkeeper made the save.

In the final minutes of the first half, Vasco opened the scoring with a stunning goal from Bruno Lopes: 1-0. If they maintain this score, the game will be decided on penalties, as Flamengo won the first leg 2-1.

After halftime, the game remained lively. Vasco was looking for a second goal. Meanwhile, the Ninho Boys were also pushing into the opponent's box and trying to penetrate the area.

In the final stretch, the home team pressed the red-and-black team, which managed to hold on. Flamengo still had a good opportunity with Camargo in stoppage time, but was pressured by the Cruzmaltino defense. With the 1-0 defeat, the decision went to penalties.

Mengão won 6-5 in the penalty shootout and secured their second U-17 Rio Cup title. Goalkeeper Léo Nannetti stood out when he saved a penalty. Joshua, Wanderson, Camargo, Fred, Yago, and Johnny converted the shots for the red-and-black team.
