In Flamengo's official youth debut in 2023, the U-16 Garotos do Ninho defeated the home team 3-0 in the Olaria Renovado Cup. Douglas Telles, in the first half, and Bidu and Tallyson, in the second half, scored Mengão's first goals of the season. On Thursday, the team coached by Leonardo Cherede faces Fluminense in the second round of the competition's group stage.

The game

The first half was all about Flamengo dominating the attacking half, especially on the right flank, where Mengão capitalized on Douglas Telles's excellent 1-on-1. He had the first real chance, after a one-two with Italo. Then, from a corner kick taken by Joshua, Pablo headed firmly, but the opposing goalkeeper made a good save.

The Ninho Boys exchanged passes in the opposing defense, trying to break through Olaria's defense, which posed little threat to the red-and-black defense. However, it wasn't until near the end of the first half that Mengão opened the scoring in 2023. In a quick counterattack, Douglas Telles charged forward alone, passed two players, and shot past the goalkeeper. His first, and the Ninho Boys' first of the current season.

In the second half, coach Leonardo Cherede made six changes to the team to give the squad some rotation. And the dominance continued. With his first chance, Tallyson struck a first-time shot that hit the post. But the second goal came again from the right. Joshua took a challenge in midfield, and the ball fell to Bidu, who simply had to take it away from the goalkeeper to score the second. Before the timeout, Tallyson received the ball free in the middle and took a shot from outside the box, scoring a stunning goal to seal the 3-0 victory.
