The Boys of the Nest had their last training session of the year this Sunday (31), in the morning, at Ninho do Urubu, in Vargem Grande. The team led by Mario Jorge opens Flamengo's 2024 season with the 54th São Paulo Junior Football Cup, on January 5, against São José-RS, at 17:30 pm.

To this end, the Rubro-Negro played two friendlies in the last week of the year, in addition to the physical and technical activities taking place at the training center. First, on the 27th, the team defeated Madureira's under-20 team, which will also be in the Copinha, 5-1, with goals from Carbone, Iago, and Victor Silva in the first half, and two from Lucyan in the second half. And last Saturday (30), the Garotos do Ninho drew 1-1 with Nova Iguaçu's professional team, with Zé Welinton scoring in the second half. Coach Mario Jorge spoke about the games and preparations to kick off Mengão's 2024 season.

"We managed to do everything we had planned to the letter. We implemented many individual initiatives to provide the necessary balance for athletes returning from vacation or the end of the season, while also leveraging previous knowledge and collectively adjusting the team for 2024."

Therefore, we had two important matches where we could assess our team's level. Both were close matches, and one of them was against a professional team, where our team performed very well, with a high volume of play and playmaking. We also performed very well when we were without the ball.  said the coach who also added:

"We're heading into the final training session to make adjustments for the next two training sessions we'll have here in Rio, focusing entirely on team issues and game plans. On January 3rd, we'll head to São Paulo for one more training session before the debut on the 5th," concluded Mario Jorge.

Flamengo is the four-time champion of the Copinha and is seeking its fifth title. Group 19 is made up of Mengão, Audax-SP, São José-RS, and São Bento-SP, based in Osasco. Check out the schedules, matchups, and broadcasts of the Ninho Boys' games:
