Ninho Boys maintain their unbeaten run in the Copinha and advance to the next stage
Mengão beat Náutico-PE 1-0 in the first half
By Victor andrade - inThe Boys of the Nest defeated Náutico-PE 1-0 in the second phase of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup and advanced in the competition. Weliton scored on the rebound at the end of the first half. Mengão will face São José-RS again in the next phase, this Monday (2), at 15:21 pm, with broadcast by SporTV, still in Osasco, at the José Liberatti Municipal Stadium.
The game
Flamengo dominated the game and had possession for much of the first half, but were unable to break down the opposing defense, which was very defensive. Iago and João Victor Alves attempted shots from outside the box that created danger, bringing a sigh of relief to the Mengão fans in Osasco.
One of coach Raphael Bahia's game plans was to exploit aerial balls. This was implemented from the opening 30 minutes onward. First, Jean Carlos took a free kick from the left, and Iago rose above everyone, but the defense cleared it. In stoppage time, João Victor Alves picked up the rebound and played it into the Náutico box. The captain headed it toward the middle of the box, Carbone shot, and Weliton opened the scoring on the rebound. The Rubro-Negro striker's second in the Copinha.
After the break, Raphael Bahia urged the team to continue playing like Flamengo: controlling the game through possession, pressuring the opponent, and looking for a second goal. This resulted in a balanced match until the final period, when Felipe Teresa and Felipe Lima came on. Both forwards created clear scoring chances but failed to score. In the end, the "Garotos do Ninho" withstood the opponent's final pressure and secured qualification with Germano preventing an equalizer from the line. One of the match's standout players, Carbone, spoke about his return to the starting lineup after a period out injured and the importance of the victory.
"I was out for a long time with a very serious injury. I have a lot to thank God for, my family, my girlfriend, and my friends, who were very important during this recovery phase, during this difficult time in my life. And so, half of the group returned to Rio, for the Carioca, but that's what Flamengo is all about, a highly qualified team. We're here to show our worth, to compete, to put our foot down, as the game turned out to be. A very tough game, every Copinha game is like that. I'm so happy. To be back, to be with this wonderful crowd, the nation supporting us from start to finish," said the defender.
