Flamengo started its quest for its third Brazilian Under-17 Championship title in the best possible way. On Wednesday afternoon (5), the Garotos do Ninho beat Cuiabá 3-0, at 15 pm, in Gávea. Germano, David and João Victor scored the red-black goals in the victory. With the result, the Mais Querido earned its first three points in the competition.
The match also marked the return of defensive midfielder Khauan Schlickmann, who had spent a considerable amount of time recovering from a muscle injury. He missed the final stage of the Copa Rio, in which Flamengo won the title against Fluminense, for example. The athlete, however, remained on the bench. Menegatti, who had returned from injury against Fluminense, came on in the second half.
The game
Flamengo started the match looking to attack. Just two minutes in, Lucyan took a shot from outside the box, but the ball went just wide of the post. The "Garotos do Ninho" kept possession on the attack, trying to find space to finish on goal. Cuiabá, meanwhile, stayed back, waiting for a counterattack.
In the 24th minute, David was brought down in the box, and the referee awarded a penalty. Germano stepped up to take the penalty and beat the goalkeeper to open the scoring at Gávea: 1-0. Mengão extended their lead in the first half. Fabrício crossed into the box, and David Viana tapped in to make it 2-0. In the 46th minute, Luis Aucélio took a shot from distance, drawing gasps from the crowd. It was close! Flamengo took the partial victory into the locker room.
Flamengo continued to dominate the attack early in the second half. A third goal almost came in the 9th minute, with Bill heading in a cross from Felipe Lima. Shortly after, Germano found the net, but the referee flagged for offside.
The Flamengo blitz continued. Felipe Lima, Lucyan, David Viana, Pedrinho, and Douglas Telles threatened—and soft water on hard rock… Germano took a perfect free kick from the left, and João Victor rose high to head past the goalkeeper: 3-0 Flamengo. The defender returned for this match after serving with the Brazilian national team—and he's already made his mark.
The third goal of Mais Querido gave final numbers to the match.
Next appointment
The Garotos do Ninho return to the field on Thursday (13), to face Fluminense, at 16:15 pm, at Luso Brasileiro. The tricolor is in charge.
