Humility after a gala night at the São Paulo Cup

Thomas doesn't boast about his five goals and guarantees "I'm just here to do good for Flamengo"

Not every player can say they've scored five goals in a single game in their career. But at 17, Thomas already has this feat on his resume. On Friday night (January 07.01), the number 16 jersey for Flamengo's youth team found the net five times against Gurupi-TO, in a match valid for the second round of the São Paulo Cup.

But anyone who thinks he "jumped on his heels" after his great performance is mistaken. Quite the opposite. The young player remains humble and says he's on the team only to help out, not to be a star. Proof of this is that he started the debut game on the bench, for example.

"I'm not here to be a top scorer. I'm just here to do good for Flamengo, nothing more. I'm just one more to help," said the player, who sealed the rout with a penalty goal that other players would have liked to have taken.

"I took the penalty because coach Paulo Henrique asked me to, I did what he ordered. If another player wanted to take it, that would be fine. But I went there, I took it, and I'm happy with my performance," he explained.

Thomas humbly emphasizes the importance of the match for his career, but he's not yet 100% satisfied. After all, Flamengo still needs to score in the final round, against São José dos Campos, to qualify for the next round.

"It's important to score five goals, but the best thing is to come away with three points. We're not happy about not winning the first game. We have to keep up the momentum, win the next game and secure qualification," he concluded.
