Flamengo will decide its future in the São Paulo Junior Cup this Monday (January 10.01th) against São José in São José dos Campos. The top two teams in Group K will face off, and the winner will secure a spot in the next round. To achieve its goal, coach Paulo Henrique's team will rely on the talent and determination of the tireless Negueba.
At the end of last year, it was like this: he went straight from the last Brasileirão game to Flamengo's debut in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. Now, it's a new year, but no new life. The player played on Sunday (January 09.01) against Londrina, for the professional team, and that evening caught a plane to the Copinha match. According to him, this is "the joy of playing football."
"It's a great joy to play football. I'm a club employee, I do what's asked of me, and I'm very happy to have the opportunity to be on the first team and also playing in the São Paulo Cup, which is a great showcase," said the player, who celebrated the fact that he has teammates from the youth team close by, also in the professional ranks.
"It's great to have my teammates from the youth academy here. We talk a lot, we help each other and we're looking for our space," he said.
Keeping an eye on Guilherme's football, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo believes that the 18-year-old has everything he needs to continue fighting for his place in the red-black squad.
"Negueba is a fast, dribbling player, and he's still trying to adapt to the striker position. He hasn't played like that before, so it's natural that he's having some difficulty. He's looking for his space," he explained.
Adryan, Digão, and Muralha also left Londrina to join the youth team in the Copinha. Flamengo's lineup is expected to include Cesar, Alex (Digão), Marllon, Frauches, and Anderson; Vitor Hugo, Muralha, Lorran, and Adryan; and Negueba and Lucas (Thomas).
