Juniors draw in Gávea

Flamengo's youth team failed to secure its second consecutive victory in the Rio Cup. The team looked like it would emerge from Gávea with a comfortable victory over Volta Redonda, taking a 2-0 lead, but in the second half, the Flamengo youth team ultimately allowed the Steel City team to equalize 2-2. Now, the team turns its attention to the third round, against Bangu, next Saturday in Gávea.
With goals from Guilherme and Diego Maurício, Flamengo finished the first half ahead. Despite several absences from the starting lineup, and without coach Armênio Moura, who felt unwell and was ruled out for the match by the medical department, the team from Gávea put in a strong performance and dominated the game for the first 45 minutes.
The advantage, however, ended up making the young red-blacks, who were led by Paulo Henrique, the observed coach of the professional team, relax and concede the draw in the final stage.
"We ended up slipping up at the end. We had the game won and let their team equalize. Unfortunately, it wasn't the result we were hoping for. At Gávea, we always have to do our homework, but now it's time to think about the game against Bangu," said right-back Alex.
This Thursday (29.04), coach Armênio Moura should resume command of the team in training at Ninho do Urubu.
"I'm already feeling a little better and I believe I should return to the team for the game against Bangu without any problems," explained Armênio.
With the result of the match against Volta Redonda, Flamengo maintains its unbeaten streak in the competition. In two matches, the team has achieved one win and one draw. The red-and-blacks need to win the Rio Cup to earn the right to play the State final against Fluminense, the Guanabara Cup champion.
