Juniors report back for the start of preseason next week
The U-20 teams' calendar is European-style: championships in December and January, and mid-year holidays.

December and January. Two months that are practically synonymous with vacation in Brazil. Not for the U-20 boys, who, during these months, compete in the Brazilian Championship and the São Paulo Cup. So, June remains for them to take a vacation. And those enjoying their last days of break are Flamengo's junior boys. Next Monday (June 20.06), they return for the start of preseason training.
"This break for the holidays was very beneficial, as we really needed the rest to start the new season, which begins with the Taça BH in August. We will have a 45-day preparation period and will play six to eight friendlies. The planning for this preseason was already in place before the holidays and also includes preparation for the OPG Tournament, Brasileirão, and Copa do Brasil," explained Cleber dos Santos, Flamengo's under-20 coach.
As Cleber dos Santos pointed out, the next challenge for Flamengo's juniors is the Taça BH, with no official start date yet. In 28 editions of the competition, Flamengo has reached six finals and brought the trophy home to Gávea in three of them. Last year, the team, now led by current coach Cleber dos Santos, finished second.
"A large part of last year's squad will be able to compete in the Taça BH again. This gives us great hope of winning the title, as the boys have already been through the situation they will face again," said the red-and-black coach.
Three players who, until May, were only part of Cleber dos Santos' squad, are now training with the seniors. They are Digão, Samir, and Thomás. The defender even started Flamengo's last match, against Criciúma, in the Brasileirão. Coach Cleber dos Santos is awaiting a decision regarding the future of these three.
"It will depend on what the professional thinks. We will accept what is best for them (Mano Menezes' coaching staff). In the under-20s, we have a squad of around 30 players and there are good athletes in each position," said Cleber dos Santos when asked about the future of the three youngsters and their replacements.
