From home to Gávea, and from Gávea to Ninho do Urubu. This was the route taken by all of Flamengo's youth team players last Wednesday (March 10.03). The full-time work is part of the kids' preparation for Sunday's (March 14.03) game against Madureira, in the category's Campeonato Carioca.
The young red-and-black team, the competition leader, played a training match in Gávea in the morning and held training sessions at Ninho do Urubu in the afternoon. Coach Armênio Moura highly praised his players' performance against Barcelona, a professional team in the third division of Rio de Janeiro soccer.
"It was great to be able to participate in this training match because the players have contact with Flamengo's professional team. They were able to face a professional team, and that's also important. I liked the team's performance; even playing against an older team, they won 4-0 and did very well," he analyzed.
The coach highlighted the importance of training on the field where the team will play next Sunday, against Tricolor Suburbano.
"On Sunday, we'll play here against Madureira, and it's always good to have experience at the game's venue. We train at Ninho do Urubu and play here. So, the more opportunities we have to do activities at the same venue as the games, the better," he noted.
Regarding the pressure of not even thinking about stumbling, Armênio guarantees that he and his subordinates are more than used to it.
"We're five goals ahead, but we can't even think about slipping up. We're playing at Gávea, and the pressure is always there. Even if we had beaten Macaé, there would have been pressure to win to keep Botafogo from getting there. We have to get used to that," he concluded.
