Even without playing with the starting lineup, Mengão beat Colo-Colo, from Chile, 3-0 and qualified for the semifinals of the Flamengo Adidas Cup. First place in group A, the under-16 team had a great performance on Tuesday morning (6), on field 3 of CT George Helal. Luan Andrey, Menegatti and Pedro Lemos scored the goals in the important victory.
After playing two consecutive days of competition, coach Eduardo Zuma decided to rest virtually all of the red-and-black starters. Only defender Victor Thiago, the team captain, played from the start. Forwards Felipe Teresa and Khauan Schlickmann were not included in the match.
The game began without any major attacking moves, with both teams concentrating their attacks further from the box. The only clear chance was a shot wide by left-back Lucyan in the 10th minute. Seven minutes later, Flamengo scored on a free kick by striker Luan Andrey.
The goal gave the team more confidence, and the kids began to loosen up. In the 23rd minute, David nutmegged the marker and shot wide after receiving a beautiful backheel pass, in a quick one-two with Fabrício. Luis Guilherme then finished to the right of goalkeeper Gabriel Morales.
Colo-Colo only threatened for the first time in the 29th minute, with a header from striker Diego Muñoz, following a cross from the left, well saved by Raphael. The red-and-black goalkeeper was at it again in the following play, with a shot from Francisco Madrid, the Chilean team's captain and number 10.
Flamengo came out hot in the second half, and striker Fabrício almost extended his lead early on. The Chilean defender saved the ball just as he was about to finish. In the tenth minute, Luan Andrey came very close to scoring his second goal with a powerful shot from a cross from the left, but Gabriel Morales made a great save.
The starting trio of Menegatti, Felipe Lima, and Lorran came on in the 15th minute, and the substitutions helped the Red-Blacks take off. Full of energy, number 10 Lorran entered the pitch, tying up defenders and was stopped by the defender as he approached the box. Flamengo was able to take advantage of the team's chemistry, and through a beautiful one-two on the inside, Pedro Nunes found Menegatti, who finished with skill to extend the lead in the 25th minute. The center forward scored his third goal in the Flamengo Adidas Cup.
Two minutes later, defender Pedro Lemos capitalized on a rebound from a corner kick and scored Mengão's third. With the score at 3-0, the Garotos do Ninho relaxed, and passing the ball became their weapon to maintain their lead. Individual plays also began to occur more frequently, especially with Lorran.
The Most Beloved achieved its second victory in the Flamengo Adidas Cup and will play the semi-final this Wednesday (7), at Ninho do Urubu. Santos Laguna won 4-0 against Arsenal and advanced in second place in the group.
